However, the gold eventually ran out, and a devastating fire in 1912 further contributed to the town's decline. By the 1940s, Garnet was virtually abandoned, leaving behind a remarkably intact ghost town. Today, visitors can explore Garnet's well-preserved buildings, including the J.K. Wells Hotel, the Kelly Saloon, and the schoolhouse. Guided tours are available, providing insights into the town's history and the lives of its residents. Transportation
Garnet Ghost Town is located approximately 11 miles northeast of Drummond, Montana. The road to Garnet is unpaved and can be rough, especially during the winter months. High-clearance vehicles are recommended. From Drummond, take Bear Gulch Road north. Follow the signs to Garnet Ghost Town. During the winter months (typically November through May), the road may be closed due to snow. Check the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) website for current road conditions before visiting.
